Black The Fall is a side-scrolling puzzle game that was funded on Kickstarter and backed by Execution Labs. You play as an old machinist who is trying to break free from the chains of the Communist regime by solving various challenging puzzles and exploring grim locations.
The developers created a gloomy world where every single detail, from the characters in the background to the mechanics of the puzzles, is nicely-drawn and thought. Also, the sound effects go perfectly with the scenery.
As for the challenges, at first, the puzzle is quite simple to figure out, especially if you've played other games from the same genre. You won't receive any gameplay instructions, you will need to figure out how to unravel puzzles. You begin your journey alone, solving riddles while avoiding detection and annihilation. After a while, you will be able to put your hands on a device which helps you manipulate machines as well as other humans. You will also run into a robot that will prove to be of good use while solving puzzles.
There's no dialogue or actual details regarding the Communist regime during the game. Instead, at the end of the game, you will receive a message which most likely makes you search for answers regarding the Romanian history, especially the Communist period.
All in all, I think Black The Fall is a great example of a puzzle game. It brings you various new elements which I, for one, haven't seen in other side-scrolling puzzle games (for example, new types of mechanics), has impressive graphics and animations, and offers you controller support.
